Benzodiazepine Abuse Treatment Options
Benzodiazepines are classified as minor tranquilizers and are highly addictive, having high rates of abuse nationwide. Colloquially referred to as “benzos”, they are often commonly prescribed and used for their antianxiety, sedative, hypnotic, and muscle relaxant qualities. Common “benzos” include Xanax, Ativan, Valium, Klonopin and a host of other analogs that a flooding the black market. Chronic benzodiazepine use can contribute to increasing depression, nausea, insomnia and worsening rebound anxiety. Abrupt cessation of benzodiazepines is extremely dangerous and can result in seizures if not done under medical supervision.
